As many of you may know, as a body of believers, Calvary Worship Center, is a member of the Calvary Chapel Association, (CCA). Recently, within the Calvary Chapel Association, there has been a “parting of ways” based upon “methodology,” and not theology or doctrine. Brian Brodersen, senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, and son-in-law of the founder of the Calvary Chapel movement, Chuck Smith, has resigned from the Calvary Chapel Association Board, (CCA). Since then, Brian has moved on to established another organization called, “Calvary Chapel Global Network.”
Many have asked, which group will Calvary Worship Center now be associated with; the CCA or the newly formed CCGN? I would strongly caution anyone in regards to the nature of their inquiry. While some are asking out of sincere concern, other inquiries may be bordering on “carnality.”
(1 Corinthians 3:1-4) And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. 2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; 3 for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? 4 For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not carnal?
Such a mentality is the antithesis of what scripture teaches.
(Ephesians 4:1-6) I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Therefore, in light of God’s truth, our status with Calvary Chapel has not changed. We have been and will continue to be a member of the Calvary Chapel Association. However, that does not mean we will dis-associate ourselves from Brian Brodersen and the members of CCGN; lest we defy the “mandate” of God’s word, (Ephesians 4:1-6).
Let us not be among those carnal-minded individuals who, for the sake of gossip, seek to “demonize” others, because their method of ministry is not exactly like ours.
(Mark 9:38-41) Now John answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us." 39 But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40 For he who is not against us is on our side.
I hope this helps you in understanding CWC’s position in regards to this matter. Let us keep the “main thing,” JESUS! the “main thing”; understanding, that a part from love we are not disciple makers, but merely “noise makers,” 1 Corinthians 13:1-3.
(John 13:34-35) A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
